APRIL - 2008

No Kiddin' Spring has kicked off!

Dear fellow MBGA members,

Spring is a time of new beginning.  As goat farmers we impatiently count the days until the first kids of the year will be born.  These bouncing, bounding, baby goats bring us our first glimpse of our carefully planned breeding.  Each new kid brings with him or her great expectations for a productive year.

The meat goat industry like spring continues to bloom.  With the diversity of opportunities our industry is overflowing with growing potential.   The youth market wether portion has experienced growth unlike any other youth livestock program.  Purebred, commercial, and show stock inventories also continue to expand.

The MBGA, Inc. has many exciting events planned ahead.  May 10th is the kick off to our show season.  The Spring Show will be held at the Shiawassee Fairgrounds.  A wether show followed by an open ABGA sanctioned show.  Then the day will end with a wonderful youth show and lastly our membership meeting.  Please plan to attend this great event.

June brings forth the start to our education events with showmanship, fitting, and meat goat judging seminars.  Oakland County Fairgrounds, in Davisburg, will be the setting for this occasion.  Start your day off with a wether show hosted by our member Mrs. Molly Angel.  Then relax and enjoy the experts at any or all of the MBGA's seminars.

August follows up the show season with the Michigan State Fair, with a wether show the first week and a Labor Day weekend filled with Boer goat showing.  The State Fair is always a wonderful family experience, that can't be missed.

September and November will usher in our Fall Roast and Bred Doe Sales.  This year's Roast will be hosted at the farm of Steve and Diane Hunt of Leroy, Michigan.  The Hunts plan to offer a buck collection, A.I. class, and a pasture management seminar.  Finally, elections will be held at the roast for new directors.  Don't miss a wonderful time to interact with your fellow MBGA, Inc. members.  The Bred doe sale takes place at  the MSU Pavilion this year.  We will end the year on a high note with the first ever raffling of an MBGA, Inc Boer doe kid.

Please try and plan to attend at least one of these spectacular events this year!  The MBGA, Inc. has stuffed this year full of family fun occasions.  We look forward to seeing all of you at this year's events.  If you have any question or comments or would like to join a committee please, feel free to contact me.

Yours truly,
