The Michigan Boer Goat Association Scholarship Program is designed to promote and encourage educational enhancement of young Boer Goat Breeders, whom will be our industry leaders in the future, by awarding annual scholarships.

This scholarship program is open to any active MBGA, Inc. Member or direct family member.

Basic Boer Goat Facts.....

Originating from South Africa, the Boer Goat is primarily a meat producing animal, and considered the hardiest of the goat breeds.

Breeders within the United States can not keep up with the growing demand for goat meat.  As a result, the majority of Boer goat meat consumed in the United States, is currently imported from other countries, such as New Zealand.

The genetic dominance of the Boer Goat, make it the ideal breed to raise in a goat ranch enterprise.  Having a high resistance to disease, they adapt readily to various climates & terrain.

Breed standards, according to the ABGA, include high fertility, pasture hardiness, high meat production. Mature Bucks weigh between 240-300 pounds.  Mature Does weigh between 200-225 pounds. The normal gestation period, or pregnancy for a goat ranges from 145 to 154 days.
